Building Web Sites for Fun and Profit!

Author: Rick Beach

Are you are ready to build your first web site for fun or profit, but have no idea where to start? The good news I am going to tell exactly where to start in this article. First of all I just want to make sure you have the basics down before we start. You should have some basic experience with computers before starting a web site project, unless you plan to hire the job done. You know how to use Microsoft Word or a comparable word processor. Right? If you do not then that is where you going to start and that will not be covered in this article. You are comfortable on the computer and have a basic understanding of the Internet and can browse from page to page. Right? Good then let’s get started. Here is a list of items we need to think about before we setup the web page.

First: First of all and most important. What is the subject of the website? This will determine how we handle a lot of things like the domain name and hosting. I would suggest that no matter what your sites objective is, that you pick a subject that you like. Building a site will require substantial time and it is quite a bit easier task, if like the subject your are writing about.

Second: Decide on the type of site your going to build like maybe a blog, journal, how to do something or maybe a forum. Each of these site types require a different type of server software and you need to make sure your hosting provider offers them.

Third: If this is a for profit venture have some idea how you intend on selling your product. If it is a affiliate program. Read the terms of service and make sure your site will not violate there TOS in any way. There is nothing worse that building a site around a affiliate program to find out there not going to allow you to sell there product on it.

Forth: Have a fixed budget in mind for the project. Make sure you understand all the cost involved. Web site building software, web hosting, domain names, and other items you may feed are important.

Building web sites is fun and I assure you can do it with very little computer experience. However, it will require a little planning. Now take some action and get that first site going and remember bulding web sites for fun and profit should be fun.

Regards

by Ted Theodore

If you are a fresh beginner looking for ways to make money online, you may feel a little overwhelmed by the information overload that is presented to you. Almost every corner you turn to, the so called guru’s are quick to promote their own specific technique to make tons of money online.

Some of these gurus do charge a hefty fee to join into their program and it wont be long before you run high and dry if you were to sign up for most of these programs. The truth is to be successful there are a few basic skills you need to master to enable you to create your own success.

The first thing you need to do is to identify your own interests and skills. Do you have any specific skill you can sell for a fee? If you know any skills that people are looking to learn such as guitar playing, then you can setup a site teaching people how to play the guitar. If you love to cook and have access to a huge database of recipes, then you can start your own cooking site and teach others how to prepare dishes for a monthly fee.

Creating the website

You don’t have to spend a bomb trying to make the perfect website the first time you launch your own online business. A simple site with a nice design will do. After all, you don’t really know how successful the site will be so you should not risk too much on this new venture unless you are sure you can get your investment back.

A simple solution would be to build your first website using a Word Press platform. It is simple to build and very easy to manage. Anyone without any HTML skills can manage and create one of these blogs instantly. Most hosting providers do offer a self-installation Word Press platform where you get to install the blogs and the theme you desire with just a few clicks of the mouse. Customizing those themes is easy too. If you can’t do it yourself, just hire a freelancer to do it. Once you have the site up and running, you would want to learn basic promotion skills such as social networking, bookmarks and submission of articles to article directories. This would require you to do some extra research but most of the information you need is free. Just scour the web and you can have all of the answers you need. If you get the site to rank at the top spot on Google, you can be sure to drive massive traffic to your new site. Since traffic is the life of any website it is crucial to know how to do this properly. SEO tactics involve two basic things; onsite optimization and offsite optimization. Learn how to configure the appropriate tags. Finally, once you have everything setup, learn how to deal with your visitor and ways to build a mailing list. Make it an attempt to capture as much leads as possible from your visitors so you would have a nice database to sell your products and services to.

Learning to make money online and become successful is not rocket science. You just need to have a driving passion and the willingness to learn all you can about the way internet marketing works. It is a highly exciting journey and you can be on your way to make your first million dollars online.

Any One Can Create A Website

 by: Robert Nixon

Yes, anyone can create a Website, it is not as hard as you may think and it will not take a long period of time to get done. If you can not afford for pay for a professional to create one for you, there are other options you may not have considered.

Most people today that have a PC (personal computer) at home today also have some sort of ‘office’ program, either from Microsoft or some other company of the same level. You may even want to take advantage of the offers from the big search engines themselves, such a Google’s new page creator, and have an additional websites on the internet.

These programs come with additional programs that make life easier, such as Word, Publisher, Power Point to name a few. Since many are well versed in one of these programs, they often use it’s ‘website’ function as their first tool for creating a website. It all depends upon the level of the master program you install, and that depends upon the value you think the program will have for you at the time of purchase. For instance, you can get Microsoft office ‘pro’ or ‘student/teacher’, which will have only certain programs included. The ‘pro’ version has Access, FrontPage and Publisher, where as the ‘student/teacher version does not.

You will just have to try them out and select the one you feel is best suited for your level of expertise. You can always at a later time, use one of the others and even a ‘stand alone’ program of some sort to make your website better, if desired. There is nothing wrong with any of the mentioned programs,I used Word as my very first website creation tool once Microsoft added that function to it. I have been active with computers since the early 70′s when I took computer science in college and majored in programming. At that time is was all ‘main frame’ languages since the internet as we know it today did not exist. There was one but it was not available for public use and many did not know about it, only the colleges and government.

We know the search engines love to ‘re-visit’ your site and check for changes in order to have the latest changes you have made to your site. There will be changes during the course of time as many change associations, add links or pictures and text. I too go through this and get tired of having the same old page jump up at me when I go to my site. If you are like most of use, you visit your site much more than anyone else. You like to check things like your ‘hits’, ‘page views’, and links ( to see if any are no longer valid ).

Here is where having an advanced editing program (the more common are ‘Dreamweaver and Frontpage’) comes in very handy or having a working knowledge of html code as you will need one of them to get your ‘meta tags’ in place. Do you have to do this? No, you do not, but if you do not then you may never get listed with some of the better engines since the ‘robots’ they send to check out your site for listing may not find the information they require.

The key to any website when creating it is to detach yourself and think about what others will like or think about what they see when the visit your site. There are physical aspects to this, not only mental ones. You will find in a room of many people they each will have input on what ‘they’ like. You will have to get the common factors and use those as your basic ones as the starting point for your site. You can always ignore this and do what you like and that is ok too. With the millions of new people getting on the internet every month, the chances of ‘like minds’ like yours that will love your site just as you created it grows. It will be seen no matter what, so don’t become overly concerned and get your site up as soon as you can.

When Google came out with ‘Adsense’ they found many neglected certain aspects called site page ‘hot spots’. These ‘hot spots’ should never be overlooked when creating a website or any of it’s ‘related’ pages. Google has a set of articles about this.

I, like many of you, love to ‘do things myself’ and got advanced programs such as Frontpage to use for my website creation and up-dating once I had the initial site up using one of the basic programs such as the ones mentioned above. I am even more into learning how to use them myself by relying on the ‘help’ aspects. I have found that for me, trial and error brings more rewards. I also just have not the time to attend a night class or private class on the program, although I do think most should do this before attempting to do a site with an advanced website program.

Once your done, you will face another challenge and that is ‘up-loading’ it to your domain for the rest of the world to view. There are several ways you can do this or you can contact your hosting company and they will assist you or do it for you. If they charge will depend upon the level of site you have with them or other factors. I have found it is better to create the site first, then get your hosting. Let them know you have a ‘web’ ready to up-load. In the process you will also find it will take up to 72 hours before your domain will be viewable across the whole internet or for your hosting server to get what is called the DNS active.

The bottom line is to get your site up as soon as you can and start making money with it if that is what you desire.

Good Luck,

Free Traffic – Seven Ways

 by: Steve Gillman

Free traffic? The other day I saw that someone had been putting post-it stickers with the name of their website on bus stop benches and telephone poles. How many ways can you get free web site traffic? Who knows, but here are seven ways to get you started.

1. Online classified advertisements. Search “free advertising” or “free ads”, and you’ll find there are many places that you can advertise for free. Few of them seem to be of any value, but I have been using two that work well. Place a few ads, then check your reports to see if they are bringing in traffic. Start regularly using the ones that deliver.

2. Link exchanges. Link exchanges with other web sites help you get free traffic in two ways: traffic directly from the other site, and traffic from the search engines, because the link helps your ranking with them. Find sites that have a theme similar or related to yours, and send out nice e-mails suggesting an exchange.

3. Post in discussion forums. This can be a great source of traffic for some sites. You just talk about things of interest to you, and get free traffic to your web site (always sign off with a link to your site). If you link to subscription pages for newsletters or e-courses you offer, you’ll get repeat visits from the traffic. Don’t spam, or you’ll be kicked out but true participation makes a relevant link okay in many forums.

4. Search engine submissions. Don’t wait for search engines to find you. Automatically submit to 15 of them at www.freewebsubmission.com. You can also submit manually to Google (www.google.com/addurl.html). Ultimately, search engines will be some of your primary sources of free traffic.

5. Submit to directories. First do a search for niche directories for the topic of your website. Type in “directory + online games,” or whatever your site is about. Many general directories also accept submissions for free. The value of directories is not direct traffic, however (you won’t get much). The value is in the links, which help your ranking (and therefore traffic) with the search engines.

6. Write and submit testimonials. If you love an e-book or other online product, tell the author, and let her know she can use your testimonial. Of course, mention that you’d appreciate it if she left the link to your site (under your name) active. Good testimonials are valuable, and you’ve probably seen them with a name and link attached.

7. Submit articles. This is one of the best ways to generate free web site traffic. In fact, it’s why I wrote this. An article is valuable because of the “resource box,” or “about the author box” at the bottom, where there is always a link. If I leave you intrigued, and wanting more, you might click through. This is a great way to generate free traffic.

Get Your Site Up Online And Make Money With It

 by: James Little

1. Plan It All Out – Your Topic!

You will need to think of your site topic will be. Example, will it be a specific freebies site like “Free Software Download” or a more general site like “Free Download” with free software download, free online games download, free ring tones download, free templates download…and more. You will have to carefully think of how competitive the market is, which you will be venturing in. Of course, you also have to think of how your site will make you money $$$!

2. Design Your Precise Site.

There are tones of excellent tutorials on the net that should help you in designing your precise website. Once you have got your website designed up, you will then need to consider which hosting provider you are going to host it. There is a large pool of web hosting providers across the net. Some are really good and reliable with guaranteed uptime, while some others are not so reliable. Take into consideration of their after sales support.

One of the best places to start looking for hosting provider is the net itself! Simply go to the big G or Y! And type web hosting and you’ll get all the information for your sites hosting needs. Once you have found a handful of web hosting providers that looks just right for you, the best thing to do next is to go to online forum associated with web hosting. Conduct a check, you can ask others what they think of your chosen web hosting providers, which others will gladly give feedbacks. Now you get a better picture as to whether they are reliable hosting providers or not.

So far, what I’ve gathered of the best value hosting package is from HostGator.com. They have wonderful hosting plan, of which I think is one of the lower cost in the market at this moment. Well, that’s my personal opinion; and I am not in any way associated with them too, just purely from my own research.

3. Choose Your Products or Services To Sell.

Now you have chosen your hosting provider, the next step will be to add something to offer on your site which will bring you some money. As always, one of the best options to do is to sell your own products. But not many people would be able to do this.

Don’t be discouraged by this!

If you are unable to offer your very own products or services, you can always join affiliate programs! Use them on some pages on your site, if not all. There are people on the net whom are making tones of money just selling others’ products or services. They are the “Super Affiliate”.

Same thing, to easily find affiliate programs for your sites topic; simply conduct a search on the big G or Y! However, one tip to note is that, when adding the affiliate programs to your site you must make them look like your own content and are not just another boring list of affiliate links. This way, it will be much more likely results in higher click thru to the affiliate programs site which mean more potential sales, and in turn making more money for you.

4. Think About Your Advertising.

Nowadays, one of the common ways in getting visitors to your site is through utilizing the major search engines. To do this, you will need to work on your websites’ SEO (so called “Search Engine Optimization”). Once you did your homework well enough, your site will rank a lot better in the major search engines, especially the big G and Y! ; Which in turn will bring your site a lot more unique visitors.

But if you can’t do SEO ground works that entire well, or you prefer to get on other areas which you consider much more important, then you can also use other techniques. Some of these include:-

• Exchange links with other websites that are on a similar topic with your site.

• Add your site to free web directories and niche directories. They are actually quite a lot of these directories.

• Add your site’s link to your signature in the forums that you participate and post.

• Pay other sites so that they can include your link on their sites.

• Use PPC campaign (Pay Per Click) in Search Engines include e.g. Adwords.

Once you have done all of the above, you need to keep working on improving your site. Analyze which part that is under performing, and improve it. Little that you aware of, just one fine day you’ll be start smiling with increase traffic to your sites and watch your earnings picking up.

Why You Should Use (Not Abuse) Forums to Increase Your Traffic

 by: Tinu AbayomiPaul

There are dozens of reasons why you should look up the forums that are related to your market and post to them often. Here are 3 to get you started.

1- Get to Know Your Market as both an Associate and An Expert

The research alone is a good enough reason to at least sign up to some forums and read. Just by reading posts in forums, you can hear what your market concerns are, straight from consumers. You’ll be able to find what their pains are – look particularly for frequent questions that don’t appear to have solutions.

For example, if you sell timeshares, and you join travel communities, you may often hear questions asking for the best times of year to visit a certain region or locale. With this information you could start a section at your site for every listing that tells the cheapest time to travel for that area, the best time of year for good weather, and other special bits of information a traveler might want.

When you’re comfortable enough to begin posting, after watching the conversation for a few days, or perhaps even a week, you might find that new people have questions that you can help them with. By consistently becoming the go-to person, you increase your credibility as a knowledgeable expert, and people begin to trust your ability to provide information.

2- Increase Your Site’s Visibility With More Targeted Links Back to Your Site

Many forums are run by hobbyists who aren’t so much concerned with marking money from their visitors, as having an established community for discourse on certain issues. These forums will often allow you to leave a link to your site in every post. The ones that are open to public viewing for visitors are also frequently spidered by search engines.

If you set up your link correctly, you’ll then have topical links back to your own forum. Even if the search engine spiders can’t see these links at forums that can be viewed by registered users only, you will also find that once you become a part of the community, other members will click your link out of curiosity or because they’re looking for something specific that you may have at your site.

Even forums that exist to gain more sales of their own products often allow you to post your link, especially if it isn’t to a competing site. For example, internet marketing forums run by people who sell do-it-yourself SEO products may allow infopreneurs who sell a different type of product, such as an autoresponder service, to post their link freely.

The focus here, at all times, is to help other members, not just to promote your product. Your link is in your signature, so unless someone asks you a specific question, you get far better results from being helpful than you do by posting forum spam that gets deleted anyway.

3- Lurk, Listen and Learn

If you’ve been around forums at all, you already know that there are often 8 to ten times more people registered and not posting than there are people who actually visit and participate.

Reading without ever posting is commonly known as “lurking”. I usually suggest that at least for the first week, you should monitor the community you wish to join in this way, just reading posts, and learning the personality of the forum you’d like to post in – this keeps you from committing any faux pas that might have you corrected by another member, or even worse, banned.

Sometimes you’ll find a forum that is appropriate to read, but doesn’t seem like the right place for commercial posting. Or you might find that you’re there to learn and not to teach – or maybe you just don’t have the time to post as you’d like to. You can still learn a lot by being a lurker.

When lurking in forums, your primary job is to listen (figuratively speaking) and learn. Again, pay attention to questions that come up repeatedly over the course of a month or so. Be on the look out for rumored product or technology developments. Find out who is the resident expert – maybe this is the key person for an interview you want to do, or an affiliate program you can join.

The most important thing you can learn from this exercise is what annoyances your market is experiencing. If you sell cat furniture, and you find out that a common complaint is availability in remote markets, maybe you can change your shipping policy to add international ordering and increase the scope of your business.

Anywhere you can fit a solution to a problem can bring you the sales you need. You may find out that you need to change your product, to enhance it, or perhaps to take out features your prospects just aren’t interested in.

This is a good solution when you have the time to visit forums and post or read. As you become more busy, you’ll find yourself at the forums less and less as a poster, so this isn’t necessarily a permanent solution. However, if you follow these steps correctly, you’ll soon have the traffic to foster more community relations at your own site as well.

Reciprocal Link Exchange – Getting The Killer Results

 by: Bill Smith

New businesses start out with a lot of vigor when it comes to website promotion. However, after a while, they tend to fall back and find it difficult to promote their website. This article details on how to tackle the reciprocal link exchange with ease.

Search for related websites:

I use Arelis software to search the web for potential candidates. You can search based on your keyword(s) to find sites of interest. eg., if you run a business site, you can search for “Business link exchange” and pull the results from Arelis. Visit each site and make sure it has at least a PR or 4 or more. The higher the PR, the better your chances of being placed on a page which will have a decent PR. Remember it is the quality of links that matter, not quantity.

Request a link:

Arelis can pull the email address from the sites. From within Arelis, it is easy to send a note to the webmaster requesting a link. Webmasters who agree for link exchange will either upload your link or send you their code. Promptly add their code to your link page and write back.

The next time around you can search for a different keyword in Arelis ex “Credit link exchange” and then pull the results. Arelis can pull a maximum of 5000 results. You might want to leave your PC on while the process is running.

Verify links:

Arelis also has a built in feature to verify your active links. Once a week, make sure you verify all your link partners. If you find your link is missing, promptly notify the webmaster.

Relevant linking:

Link to relevant sites only. Ex, if you have a debt consolidation business, focus your link exchange campaign on debt consolidation, debt counseling, debt management and credit repair sites. True, each site will pass PR but related sites will pass more PR. Using software allows you to search for links, send notifications, as well as verify links in a heartbeat. The time you save can be used to gain more links or concentrate on other aspects of your business.
